2903 Community Service Self-Reflection

2903 Community Service Self-Reflection

1.   I was volunteering in future center for special needs. I started my volunteering job on October 12, 2015. I was working on Mondays and Thursdays for 2 hours from 8 to 10 am each day. I was doing my duties and responsibilities as a volunteer. My duties were helping kids to learn new numbers and letters reading and writing. Taking care of them and training them to be organized as much ad possible, which were my responsibilities.

2.   The volunteering is thing that develops the person’s personality and changes his habits to better once. In my experience, the best part for me was meeting the children for the first time. I liked their reaction about me and how did they love me. But that toke time from them to get used to me. The best part also is when I come every morning and the kids welcoming me with hugs. Making them get used to me was the greatest challenge I faced. Especially as kids between 6 to 10 years old, which is a hard age to deal with.

3.   This experience contributed to support the community by giving without taking. When I was a volunteer I wasn’t waiting for anything to earn because the meaning of volunteering more than money, it’s giving. Actually, the volunteering targets are reducing the problems that facing the community. The volunteers will help the stuff to do more work than they did alone with less money. Volunteering develops the spirit of partnership. That will help the community to be more cooperative and together.

4.   All in all, this experience has changed many things in my thought and my personality. I was worried and scared about how I will deal with special needs children and I was wondering if they would accept me or not. They taught me how I help other people tirelessly and I became more helpful and pure heart person.

If the time returned back, I will be more on time everyday and I will change my thinking about special needs people because they are normal people. They like to meet new people and they are funny and active even more than us. I hope that I can volunteer again in future center. I loved this experience, the kids and stuff. I will really miss them. But also I prefer to volunteer somewhere else to get more different and multiple experiences.

Autism students activity..

In this video, we were trying to teach Autism’s student to touch new things because as it’s known, the Autism’s people are scared of new things. They are weak in this respect. So, we tried to make them stronger and get used to new things quickly.

Interview with miss Wejdan

Q1- As we know, the disability in general is a condition such as illness or injury that limits a person’s physical or mental abilities. So, can you explain some of the conditions that have passed you? Lets say in this class.

A- There is many conditions has passed to me. But in this class I have some students who have Autism, Mongolian (Down Syndrome), Difficulty speaking and pronunciation, Difficulty hearing or visual and the difficulty of learning.

Q2- Is it hard to deal with them?

A- umm, yes sometimes especially who have Autism. At the first time you meet them they will not accept you and it will be hard for you to deal with them. They need some time until they get used to you. So yea, it’s hard with some conditions.

Q3- As I saw, you are so nice with the kids sometimes and on times you be kind of strong with them. Is this because sometimes you can’t hold yourself when they are nutty or that because of your job as a teacher requires you to be strong sometimes?

A- In my thought, if they are special needs that doesn’t mean they do what they want and don’t be quiet and disciplined. Quite the contrary, I have to be strong with them to teach them. In addition, I consider them like my children. That’s will help them in future to be special people.

Q4- Does your job as a special needs teacher affects your own life?

A- sure it does. It changed my life. I always think about them. I feel like they are my children and I most see every one of them a successful person. I became more patient person and they taught me how to live with pure white heart.

Q5- Do you believe that special needs student can achieve their goals even if it’s hard?

A- Nothing impossible. Sure they can by the way, they have the desire and ambition more than us. If they want something they will achieve it.

Q6- Do you think that the country and government are giving the special needs all of their rights and what they need without any shortening?

A- No one can say other than that. The government is diving them all their rights. The country provided them centers and equipment to help them.

It was really good day. When I came Hajer (one of the student) ran and gave me a strong hug, she is so cute by the way.  In this day we stared with brainstorming. After that we did some calculation in interesting and creative way. The kids loved the way they calculate with and they were enjoying it.  Here is some picture how they do calculation.

Day 7

Monday, November 9, 2015

We started our morning by doing some exercises. After that we went to the class to practice some litters and numbers that the kids have learned before. After that we had an exciting trip to the bowling hall out side the center. Some of the kids were really skilled they know how to hold the bowling ball better than me. We had super fun together. The kids were so happy and enjoyed. It was an interesting and funny experience.
